we had a similar problem with our Virtual Research V8. after extensive
communication with SGI, it turns out the lowest resolution supported by
the Octane2 hardware is 1024x768. therefore, no video format does or
will exist. to circumvent this problem, we had to use a device from
Folsom Research.
we had to create 2 connections from the Octane2 to the ScreenPro (DVI to
VGA to BNC), and then set up the ScreenPro to take 2 arbitrary 640x480
portions of the 1024x768 feeds and send them to the HMD. it worked, but
the solution is needlessly complex (and expensive). there are other
similar ways to do active clipping/scaling of 2 video signals/formats for
VGA compatability, but this was the cheapest solution we could find. the
Octane2 is a nice little box, but it would be even nicer if it supported
VGA. oh well. i guess we'll just have to wait for the Octane3 ;-)
