Hi Kenneth,
Clipmaps can be generated from basically any imagery source using a tool
such as clipgen, which is on the Friends of Performer CD.
You can get good imagery from around the world from any of the
commercial
imagery providers. We have used 1m color imagery from SpaceImaging
<http://www.spaceimaging.com> with good success. Landsat imagery
<http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/> also works will but will require
orthorectification. Other imagery providers
include orbimage <www.orbimage.com> and
ImageSat International <http://www.imagesatintl.com/>
For national scale imagery, Digital Globe / earthwatch
<http://www.digitalglobe.com/> has a 15m mosaic of the entire
United States available.
For imagery on a global scale, people such as worldsat
<http://www.worldsat.ca/>
or ARC Science <http://www.arcscience.com/> have imagery of the entire
earth
at 1km resolution.
