 Doh! No, I forgot about using a pfBuffer. No wonder pfdLoadFile
 was crashing.

 I now have a working solution that forks instead of sprocs and
 uses pfBuffer select .. load .. merge as you suggest. It doesn't
 need a pfDBaseFunc, but I do have to FORK_DBASE.
