Yes, the pFExit call was the obvious thing to check, and it is in my code.

I've just done some tests, and find first two calls to program seem OK (and
I do a normal exit), but after that it eventually dumps core. Using the rmsem
utility didn't help this time, I need to logout of X entirely before it works
again.

Obviously, I need to check my code carefully for memory errors. I didn't
expect that previous incantations of the program would effect later ones, but
this is clearly the case; even using a fresh shell doesn't clear everything.
