Hello,

Right now, as part of one of my projects, I am incorporating level 1 DTED
data from the NIMA CD ROMS. After several experiments, I concluded that
the best way for me to do this task is the following: I use the Nima Muse
software to read the DTED data from a pre-determined region, then I export
it as an ARC file, which is very much like an elevation data file. Then I
use a modified version of SGI's ASDGen to create a paging ASD terrain. The
original version uses a fractal terrain generator, but you can modify that
part to make it work with your own data. A colleague of mine also
suggested to use a demToPGM and a pgmToASD programs for such effect,
but I have not tried them yet.

Nima Muse is freely available from the Nima web site:

and SGI's ASDGEn from Yair's web page:

Regards,

Marco
