I noticed from the archives that some users were having linking errors using
Performer with Debian. I really couldn't tell how the problem was solved, but
the error seemed to involve the removal of stat from the libc libraries. Here's
the specific error:
error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libpf.so.1: undefined symbol:
stat
I bring all this up, because I just installed a new-fangled version on Redhat
(v 7.1) and the problem seems to be occuring again. Here's a run down of what
Redhat 7.1 installs by default:
gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-81)
glibc-profile-2.2.2-10
compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2
glibc-devel-2.2.2-10
glibc-common-2.2.2-10
glibc-2.2.2-10
As you can see, this stuff is quite new and I understand that Performer
libraries were compiled for Redhat 6.2 (Delivering binaries on Linux is quite a
task ;) But, if Redhat and Performer can't play nicely together right of the
box, I fear this list will be inundated by Performers looking for a solution to
this problem. Is there one?
I noticed that there is a /usr/lib/libc_nonshared.a that contains a stat.o and
fstat.o, but sticking that in the link line doesn't appear to help. Are there
any workarounds for this problem? I'd rather not downgrade, if possible. Also,
is there a timeline for distributing a new libc version of Performer?
