multipipe pfASD performance

Dear sirs,
I am creating a relatively small (64x64) pfASD after the pfConfig(). When the application is using multiple pipes it runs quickly. However, when I am running it multipiped, a single process
dominates one of the CPU's and appears to slow the application considerably on our Onyx2 machine.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
