Performers,

Thank you so much for all your support and best wishes. Over the
past few days I've received dozens of messages bearing heartfelt
congratulations and good hopes, and I deeply appreciate your
sentiments.

Jenny has been an excellent guide for our product -- and project --
and we are all looking forward to her leadership as the Engineering
Director for the Core Rendering group, of which Performer is a part.
I'm sure you'll all join me and the team in congratulating her.

Among my foremost thoughts about taking on this new role is a
profound respect for the Performer legacy, and for those whose
contributions while managing the project have done so much in
building our success -- Jenny Zhao, Sharon Clay, Dr. Remi Arnaud,
Michael T. Jones, and Craig Phillips. I hope to use their efforts as
my example.

But even moreso it's the engineering team that deserves credit, and
I'm fortunate to be among such a strong and well-supported group.
The full team is hard at work on the product, and moving forward
simultaneously on several fronts:

  - Performer 2.4.1, just completed, is a minor-release update and
will ship with IRIX 6.5.12 in May.

  - Performer 2.4.2, the next minor-release update, is in current
development and will ship with IRIX 6.5.13 in August.

  - Performer 2.5, our next major release, is scheduled for late
November. This new version further extends the product in five
key domains: Distributed Rendering, Huge Datasets, Enhanced
    Realism, Ease-of-Use, and Commodity-based Platforms.

Jenny and I will be discussing Performer 2.5 in much more detail
during the Friends of Performer meeting at ITEC next week. We hope
you will be able to join us.

And finally, I have our users to thank as well. Many of you, I first
met in those heady days for SGI back in the early 1990's. And over
time, our community has grown -- our partners, the user base, the
mailing list, the Friends of Performer, etc. -- and continues to be
the keystone for SGI's graphics business.

I am looking forward to great things to come. If you have thoughts
or suggestions to share, please call or write.

Allan
