Performer is compiled correctly for the version of compiler and libc it
was compilied against (rh 6.0, gcc 2.91). the separating out of fstat and
stat didn't happen until much later on. Other distributions provide the
older versions of libc so that programs compiled against the older
compiliers will still run correctly.

I think what they want is for Performer to be compiled against the exact
version of the compiler they want.

I know at least four other distributions that provide the newer compilers
and libcs and still provide backwards compatablility just fine and
don't have a problem with Performer.

Perhaps this means that for the next release of Performer we'll have to
special case Debian when we've never had to before.
