Trouble with libXm.so.1

I have Motif installed which has put libXm.so into /usr/X11R6/lib and I've
made a link libXm.so.1 to it, but still when I try to run perfly on my
redhat 7 system I get a complaint that it can't find the above file - I'm
sure it's something stupid but I'm starting to pull my hair out here!
Can anyone give me a clue? I have this all working on redhat 6.1 machines
and I can't spot the difference!
