Hey, Guenter,

There's two ways to import max content into Performer.

1) Export your max model as a VRML 1.0 file and change the header of the
file from
        '#VRML V1.0 ascii' to read
        '#Inventor V2.0 ascii'
you should then be able to load the file with pfdLoadfile_iv(); This
assumes, of course that you have inventor on your system.

2) You can download a program called "3d Exploration" from this link:

http://www.us.righthemisphere.com/3dexploration/3d_exploration_home.htm

This program will read in a max file (even max 4.0) and export almost *any*
format -- even an open GL display list! Quite a useful tool.

While Performer doesn't support max files directly, there are several ways
to convert your data into something that performer does work with.

I would stay away from using a .3ds export from Max into performer. It
doesn't work as well as one would hope. This is probably due to changes in
the .3ds format since the loader was written.

If you'r goal is to incorporate Max animation into Performer I'm afraid
you're out of luck. There's also a lot of max-specific stuff, such as
particle systems, that won't translate as well.

Hope this helps
