Converting from Maya to pfb

Is there an easy way to convert or export files from Maya into Performer's pfb?
Nonproprietary and/or free solutions are preferred (this is pretty much a one-
time need), but other alternatives will be considered. I need to be able to
preserve levels of detail in the model, so .obj format wouldn't work very well.
I am using Maya 3 on an SGI with Irix 6.5.
