editing an *.inta file

Hello

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a free image editor that works with .inta
files or the proper settings to use with Image View? I've been trying to
use Image View 3.2 (which seem to open and save inta files) but when
performer reads them I get the following error:
        iopen: bad magic in image file 4d4d

The inta file worked fine before saving it with Image View.
