I am submitting this for a colleague who is on travel:
Hello, this is the description of my clipgen problem:
I am working on a clipmap using 600 1024x1024 Moon images and I have a
problem with clipgen. When I first defined 30 or less insets, clipgen
worked fine.
For 30 to 38 insets, sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not.
When it does not, it "hangs up" and dumps core. I do not get any further
error message but:
[1] Hangup clipgen
and core dumped.
dbx of clipgen core just indicates a Segmentation Violation, but nothing
else.
After 38, it does not work at all. Starts working on the higher levels,
and then stops working at around level 9 (out of 17, and the first 1
tile level). But I noticed that if I build one level at the time, it works
fine.
However, with 54 insets it does not work at all as it gets stuck in level
9. Some other times it gets stuck in level 10 (with 4 tiles).
I tried increasing the Cliptexture size (I was originally using 2^17), but
did not work. I also thought it was a disk space problem, but I have
plenty of space left. Also, there is no other application running while I
am using clipgen.
Any idea of what may be the problem?
I have an idea that clipgen is not allocating enough memory to
create the tiles, is this possible? and if so, can be changed?
Is there a limit concerning the number of insets I can define in clipgen?
Is there a limit on the amount of memory that clipgen can allocate?
Thanks in advance,
Marco
