xset accepts a -display parameter, so you can target it at any display.
With setmon, you can use the -p flag to specify which pipe to use. Setmon
isn't an X protocol thing, so you cant use it to change the video mode on
a different machine.
Look at the man pages for xset and setmon, they explain these flags.
