Greetings,
We have a program that loads very large 3d urban models (buildings,
terrain, etc) which are also generated inhouse. The program makes
extensive use of cliptextures since the models are photorealistic and
geospatially accurate (i.e., not repeating geometry or textures).
Anyway, the program worked fine on our onyx2 ir2 running IRIX6.5.7f.
However, we recently took the software to the Orlando SGI office where
they had an onyx3200 ir3 running IRIX6.5.9(f?) just to see if
everything would work ok. Well, it didn't. The program runs and the
cliptextures seem to page in and out too (we can dynamically move the
clipcenter) but everything only looks ok when the clipcenter is moved
out to a very specific spot and the camera is not moving. While
flying around the model (with a FlyBox), some of the back buildings
appear in front of the front ones (the front ones are still visible)
and many of the buildings are black (no textures). We have since
recompiled the app on an O2 running 6.5.9f (I don't want to upgrade
our onyx2 until this gets resolved) and retested it on an onyx2 ir2
running 6.5.9 (the one running the HDTV at the SGI booth at I/ITSEC,
actually) and gotten the same result. Therefore, it's not a hardware
issue (between ir2 and ir3). We think something might have changed in
either the way z-buffers or alpha blending is handled between the two
OS's (performer versions?).
Any light shed would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks,

P.S. Incidentally, I really enjoyed the Friends of Performer meeting
at I/ITSEC.
