LOD range values ...

Hi,

I would like to have advices on how to choose appropriate LOD range
values for a terrain simulation. I know it all depends on the following
criterias :

1) The FOV openning.
2) The maximum visibility desired.
3) The flatness of the terrain.
4) The altitude and speed at which you intend to flight the terrain.
5) The target machine specifications when running at 60 Hz.

What I am more interested in would be curves or charts that would show
the relations between distance (lod perception), roughness of the
terrain and altitude. Any ideas related to this would be greatly
appreciated.
