Hi:

Soft Reality, Inc have the low cost image generator API. How does their
product SoftVR Developer compare with SGI performer?
This is their web site. http://www.softreal.com/softVR.html

Thanks

Xia

Subject: Shared Memory Allocation

Hi,

My application need to set the size of the shared arena to more than 700Mb
I tried to use performer environment variables like this:

export PFNFYLEVEL=7
export PFSHAREDSIZE=800000000

perfly esprit.flt

I've got the following message:

25085 PF Notice(2): level Internal Debug (7) set by environment
variable PFNFYLEVEL
25085 PF Info: PFSHAREDSIZE overriding size to 781250.00
KBytes
25085 PF Info/SysErr(12): pfInitArenas() Could not mmap /dev/zero for
size 0x2faf0800 bytes at 0x0
25085 PF Info/SysErr: pfInitArenas() Could not create shared arena
of 781250.00 KB; adjusting to 390625.00 KB
25085 PF Debug/Resource: pfInitArenas() Allocated 390625KB:
0x42f34000 - 0x5acac400
...

So I thought that I don't have enough memory in the swap space
I tried to use the PFTMPDIR like this:

export PFTMPDIR=/user/tmp2
but I´ve got similar message.

24038 PF Notice(2): level Internal Debug (7) set by environment
variable PFNFYLEVEL
24038 PF Info: PFSHAREDSIZE overriding size to 781250.00
KBytes
24038 PF Info/SysErr(12): pfInitArenas() Could not mmap

24038 PF Info/SysErr: pfInitArenas() Could not create shared arena

24038 PF Debug/Resource: pfInitArenas() Allocated 390625KB:

....

the command 'df -k' give the following results:

Filesystem Type kbytes use avail %use Mounted on
/dev/root xfs 8360424 6421448 1938976 77 /

the 'swap -ln' command give the following results:

 # path pri pswap free maxswap vswap
 3 /STRIP/swap/swap1 2 1.95g 1.95g 1.95g 0.00k
 4 /.swap.virtual 2 0.00k 0.00k 0.00k 11.42g

 1 /dev/swap 0 512.00m 512.00m 512.00m 0.00k

Is there any solution for this problem?

Thanks,

Nassouh
