Pretty much.
That's why I wrote my own vtml97 to pfb converter.
But it's very limited: I only do IndexedFaceSets, because that is what
the Nendo modeller exports as wrl.
If you use Nendo, you can use my v97 to pfb converter, which handles
colour per vertex correctly. With the OpenWorld demos I could never get
a proper conversion of the colour per vertex. (neither with 0.3 nor with
2.0)

If you want, you can hack in support for the other vrml nodes.
