Bob,

Did you run Xconfigurator after you installed the RPM, or if you did not change the config file, you are still using the nv driver in the XF86Config file, and not the newly installed nvidia driver. Check the XF86Config-4 file in the /etc/X11 directory and make sure it is using nvidia and not nv. Also if you want to use Xconfigurator with the nvidia driver you will need to change the Cards file in the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 directory so that all driver references for Nvidia products use the nvidia driver and not the nv driver.
