First, if you just want to pick a single child for drawing, why not use a
pfSwitch node ?

If you want to blend between children of a pfLOD, you can use the new pfLOD
user evaluation function (available since pf2.3).
Take a look at the man page for pfLOD::setUserEvalFunc for more details.
