To be honest, when I had lots of models in Microstation (.dgn) and wanted to
view them in Performer (.pfb), I used to use a version of Microstation that
had a VRML 1.0 export which I then altered to Inventor by changing the first
line.
The VRML 1.0 exporter had a few bugs in it ie many of the face normals were
the wrong way round and the alpha channel of textures was messed up.
Though for the size of models (100s of 1000s polys) you tended not to notice
the odd mistake.

This is the alternative answer, ie assuming a different mistake by the
original sender :-)
