Subject: MPU becomes OpenGL Multipipe SDK!
Thank you for your interest in the Multipipe Utility (MPU) toolkit from SGI.
We have exciting news going forward--a product called OpenGL Multipipe SDK
(for
Software Development Kit) is being created from MPU.
OpenGL Multipipe SDK 1.0 will be a Beta version and is a multi-pipe
programming interface for OpenGL(R).
With its simple ASCII configuration file format, OpenGL Multipipe SDK 1.0
provides run-time portability of OpenGL applications between multi-pipe
environments, enabling the application to scale in performance and graphics
resources along with the number of available hardware graphics pipes
in the system. As an example, it allows a whole multiprocessor, multipipe
application to be developed and tested on a single-pipe desktop machine, and
executed on the target machine without recompilation on the target.
Key features :
.Flexible pipe, window and channel configuration
.Easy integration in OpenGL application framework
.C/C++ Functional API (no direct data access)
.Inherent support for Stereo and Head Motion Tracking
.multithreaded execution model (sproc and pthread support)
.parallel decomposition of a channel across multiple pipes
.nested (multilevel) parallel decomposition
Benefits :
.Runtime Configurability
.Runtime Scalability
.Inherent Stereo / Immersion capability
.RealityCentre<TM> Portability
OpenGL Multipipe SDK 1.0 will be available for web download by 30 September,
2000, at http://www.sgi.com/software/multipipesdk.
Going forward (as of today), the mpu++at++postofc.corp.sgi.com email list for MPU
is
replaced with mpsdk++at++postofc.corp.sgi.com for OpenGL Multipipe SDK. Please
use
this new email alias for all future communications regarding either MPU or
OpenGL Multipipe SDK.
Continue having fun writing powerful multipipe applications!
Thank you.
