I did it also, and it works for me. But here are a few tips :

- Be sure to have Motif 2.0 (lesstif) librairies on your system
   (I had an old rpm, without it) if you want to use the binairies
   (like ivview, sceneviewer, ...)
- When you compile libfiv, you have to link also plenty of lib :
   X11, Performer, ...
- When you load an iv file with perfly, setenv PFNFYLEVEL 7 (or even
more)
  to get the error messages when it loads the dso. Usually if there are
  some missing symbols, and finally says it can find the correct dso.
  So recompile your dso, and try again.
- It works !! (my unix box looks like a SGI machine more and more ...
   OpenGL, Performer, Iv, ... I'm just missing 4Dwm).
