setmon would be the right approach.
Perhaps they are failing because you don't have permission or because
the monitor cannot actuallt sync to the resulting line rate.
What formats have you found in /usr/gfx/ucode/GR2/vof? These are your
options for various resolutions and rates. The simple 72HZ target should
also work but being explicit may help.
