  You don't need to use a multi-channel approach. I've done similar
things a couple of different
ways. The easiest, but probably not the most efficient, is to create the
mask that you want and
in a draw callback do a glDrawPixels then call pfDraw. It is probably
more efficient to create
some geometry to act as a mask and use channel drawing bins to draw it
first, swapping the
stencil ops as you go.
