I think some capture programs automatically adjust the brightness of the
screen image, I thought this was just gamma but perhaps not. There may
also be something in your processing path which applies some kind of
auto gain.

Try using pfuSaveImage to save the screen contents, the command line
capture utility scrsave may also be of interest.
