libpfiv.so not loading under linux

i have compiled the libpfiv.so under linux and placed it in
/usr/lib/libpfdb/

when i run perfly i still get:

PF Warning: pfdFindConverterDSO() - Could not load DSO
for extension "iv20"
PF Warning: pfdFindConverterDSO() - Could not load DSO
for extension "iv"
PF Warning: pfdLoadFile() - Unable to load file
/usr/share/Performer/data/windmill.iv because of problem finding
pfdLoadFile_iv

i have run ldconfig and rebooted to no avail.

anyone have experience with this problem?
