openFlight attribute 'material name' in performer

Hello there,
I am trying to get some attribute data into performer (IRIX) from an
openflight file. Specifically I am trying to establish a link to the
'material name' that
openFlight encodes into the scenegraph with its material palette.
I dont know where and if the material name is maintained in the performer
graph.
Can anyone direct me where to look for this openflight-materials' attribute
in performer?
And if applicable, how to activate the specific extension to the loader.
(Got latest loader 15.4g,
but documentation isn't helping me much on this specific attribute)
