I have a machine ( biggles ) that is not logged in, and is sitting at the XDM login screen. I want to shell into that machine and run perfly ( not really perfly, but my app, but it will do for demonstration ) remotely.

I can bring and xterm up on the machine by doing something like this

yapper % rsh biggles
biggles % setenv DISPLAY :0.0
biggles % xterm &

this displays the xterm no problem ( I did have to alter the authorisation stuff in xdm-config to allow me to do this ).

However, if I do this

yapper % rsh biggles
biggles % setenv DISPLAY :0.0
biggles % perfly fred.flt

I get an xerror bat atom.

Is there a way to solve this, as I can do this on SGI IRIX.

Regards

Paul Hussein.
