Shared arena > 512M and IRIX 6.5

I thought that Irix 6.5.x was suppose to fix the 512M limitation on arena
size. Is this true? If so is there something special I need to do? If not
true, when is it going to get fixed so I can stop moving the shared arena
base and libraries around?
