I agree there is a difference between a Performer and a PC hardware support forum.
I'm not suggesting that the Performer group should be used to provide information about
all of the various permuations that will arise with Linux graphics hardware.  As long as
Performer on Linux is a 'free' product and since there is no official SGI Linux graphics
platform available yet I tend to consider it to be an unsupported product.  But when SGI
starts shipping their new workstations, they should and I believe they will, answer
questions regarding Performer on those platforms, whether it deals with hardware issues
or not.  Don't questions regarding graphics issues and Performer pass through this forum for
IRIX platforms today?

As far as dealing with Performer on non SGI hardware, I think that there will need to be
a place that users can go to discuss issues.  A  Linux Performer forum whether hosted
by SGI or not will be valuable to those users .

Just my 2c.

It's not encumbent upon SGI to support this, SGI should and must focus
on the specific products it offer. Look on the web and usenet for the
more generic forums. There are news groups and mailing lists up the
wazoo for this sort of stuff, including Linux forums and vis-sim forums.
Warning though, if you go off topic on some of those forums you'd better
be wearing your asbestos pants.

For Performer+OpenGL tutorials http://www.dorbie.com/
My comment on the abuse of Jon Johanson's rights;
After giving up raiding their neighboring countries the Norse men
have taken to raiding 15 year old kids in their bedrooms. Very sad.
