Hi,

for me the discussion, whether "non SGI-related" subjects are allowed on
this list, seems to be more a religious question (like the comments on
vis-sim.org for the MPI acquisition). Performer is an SGI product and this
is a SGI list. Therefore it's their right to exclude competitors.
Nevertheless I think that one should convince by facts and not by
protectionism.
The more serious problem for me, is the support for this free product.
There are many programmers eager to port their applications to the low cost
solutions like a PC. I also have done this and encountered some serious
problems not only related to LINUX distributions and graphic card drivers.
Mail to 'mongoose-feedback++at++corp.sgi.com' seems to be a one-way street and
the FAQ and BUG-lists are not exhaustive enough.
I think, it is time to make a statement, how Performer on LINUX will be
supported in the future. This is not only a question of
hardware/distribution/overlay combination. SGI has opened Pandora's box and
should not leave the developer community alone with their problems.
