The use of Silicon Graphics is still perfectly valid, that's official.
Allan is correct that discussion of and promotion of PC boards is off
topic for this forum. You didn't merely ask the question, you repeated
performance claims and comparrisons with an SGI product. I think SGI is
quite liberal here with our Linux coverage and assistance with driver
configuration for that platform but there is a limit to what is
reasonable use of info-performer.
In doing this kind of thing you threaten this forum and it's usefulness
to us all. In addition to the irrelevance of the traffic on an already
busy list, SGI would be insane to keep this mailing list if it were used
frequently to distribute competitive material to our most valued and
performance/feature oriented developer community. That's what
info-performer represents for SGI, so please don't abuse it in the worst
way possible.
If you want to make the kind of post you made then there plenty of
available and impartial alternative forums, some of them very good, like
www.vis-sim.org. All we're asking is that you go there for off topic
stuff and communicate with people who choose to participate in that kind
of discussion, you'll probably get a better response from a more engaged
audience.
Cheers,Angus.
