You don't necessarily need to use TCP/IP to do the syncing of data
betwen the machines.

I actually had a VR library (using Performer and OpenGL) working between
two Onyx machines using MPI as the communication method. So it is
possible.

There are two problems that you will run into though.

1. I am assuming that you will have contiguous viewing channels
displayed side-by-side from multiple channels. When doing this, there
is not "guarantee" that they will be displaying the same frame. For
this you need framelocking. With an SGI IR pipe, you can get this, but
most PC based gfx cards do not allow for frame-locking.

2. The bigger problem is that I assume you will be using stereo displays
for VR. For this you will probably need true genlocking to guarantee
the correct stereo buffers are displayed together. I have heard of a
few PC card companies claiming support for genlocking, but I have seen
none of these solutions actually working.
