Indeed, the libGL.so.x DSO naming conventions in the Linux area (or
really, lack of naming convention) caused quite a bit of
consternation, so we just picked one that appeared to be in wide
use.

It appears now that the LSB+OpenGL community has coalesced around a
particular convention for future DSOs so for the next release we'll
follow their lead. Until then, you've done the right thing with
creation of the symbolic links.
