Charlie,
We are using 3DS Max for modelling, too, but are using Division's dvMockup (.vdi
format) as main VR platform.
The .3ds export filter of 3DMax seems to be pretty poor, so we decided to export
the models as vrml2, which unfortunately can introduce a few other problems (the
new vrml2vdi converter is has some difficulties digesting the vrml file). But at
least texture coordinates, object hierarchies, and materials don't get lost.
So maybe the 'VRML route' is worth a try?
Christian
