I'm having the same problem as Thomas...
I use the second approach for Spaceball support under IRIX. This uses
the Xinput entensions. I've integrated some code snippets (found on
this mailing list's archive) to handle all of the intefacing with X.
This has worked very well for me. Supposedly the code snippits also
work for the Spacemouse. I prefer this approach because a maintain
Performer applications on many different Sytems/Networks and thus I
don't have to maintain another library on all those systems.
Doing a man on XF86Config states that Xinput extensions for Joysticks,
Wacom Stylus, Wacom Eraser, Wacom Cursor, Elographics, Microtouch
Finger, Microtouch Stylus, Summa Sketch, and a Mouse exist. Does
anybody know how hard it would be to add Spaceball/Spacemouse support to
this list? Could SGI provide some guidance on how to do this?
