Hi there,
You may be aware of this already, but I thought I will let you know
of my observation anyway.
I have been running kernel 2.4.0-testn since their release. I have also
been experiencing download failures, while I was mirroring Debian's
distribution. I did not pay attention, when my problems started.
I tried everything, from network adapters to different makes, to
machine setups, I thought that somewhere along the line I messed something
up, I was even blaming my provider.
Anyway, yesterday suddenly it struck me; I decided to try kernel source 2.2.17
from Debian's 2.2 (Potato), and suddenly things started to work again, not one
failure.
Here is the example of the messages:
Failure on 'RETR dists/potato/main/binary-arm/interpreters/gforth_0.4.9.1999061
7-1.deb' command
Failed to get dists/potato/main/binary-arm/interpreters/gforth_0.4.9.19990617-1
.deb: timed out
Failed to get file timed out
Cannot open data socket
I actually had another problem, but it went away when I switched to 3COM
adapters, my machine
was locking up when I was transferring more that 300MB of data from it.
I hope you may find this information of some use.
The reason, why I am running 2.4.0 is for my sound card, and the support for
the Athlon
mother board.
Regards,
