Dave,
I back-ported your patch to openSUSE 11.2
(https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=342869) and gave it to Carlos
for testing. And this is what happened.
(https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=568319#c21) It destroyed his
system! :( Either a bug in your original patch or probably my backport.

But before that, he tried reproducing the deadlock which he was able to without
this patch, but the deadlock is not seen anymore. So we are on the right track,
but not there yet.

Can you verify whether my back-port was buggy or there is some problem with the
fix?
