Hm, perhaps this is devfs-related... devfs is completely gone from the 1.0.1 kernel, so "devfs=mount" won't do anything for you. Perhaps something about your on-disk /dev is wrong... If there's a way

Someone else bumped into the exact same problem. You need to reinstall the devices rpm because it (obviously) didn't get installed on the 1.0 release installer. I am not completely sure it sure what

Actually, the dev RPM (dev-<version>.i386.rpm) should be installed even in 1.0, it's just not used. That's why you should be able to use "devfs=nomount" in a 1.0-installer-installed system, and still

Not if /dev/console is missing. I just saw the code from the kernel fly by on linux-mips where they were discussing a similar problem. If you cant open /dev/console this is the exact erorr message. C

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I can't boot the 2.4.2 kernel with devfs=nomount, so it looks like the devices is indeed the problem. However, reinstalling dev is turning out to be not so si

If you type "linux rescue" at te CD prompt you'll get a shell with your system mounted under /mnt/sysimage, I believe. Hopefully a chroot to there will let you poke around. -Eric -- Eric Sandeen XFS
