No. devfs is useful on large systems, the sort of systems that benefit from a decent filesystem like XFS but you can build and run XFS without devfs. Fails how? Details are required. Sounds like the

devfs is definitely not reuired--in fact, it's the 1st thing i disable through lilo since I have not spent the time to try to get it to work with any software or hardware RAID devices (by default, it

Sounds like the build is doing something wrong. Or some of the hardware is failing. If you ran 2.2 kernels before you may be in for a suprise. 2.4 pushes harder against the hardware which will show o
