Though I suspect it's borderline off-topic; I'd like to update you on the
reason why the TV "broke" the disk: 

It seems that current fluctuations in the power network lead to the TV shutting
down improperly. That's why the disk journal was not clean. When the TV is
recording during that time, the journal seems to be in even bigger jeopardy and
could get corrupted beyond recovery; then dropping it is the only solution.
