The metadump should compress well, but you might want to provide it on a side
channel.  There shouldn't be any info leaks with current xfsprogs, but an
abundance of caution makes sense.  Something like dropbox or google drive might
be a decent temporary place to host the compressed metadump image.

Only failing in the VM is ... odd.
