I'm not a kernel expert, but I tried to find a relation and I suspect this
commit to be related:

The committer added:
xfs_buf_ioerror(bp, -EIO);

and in my trace there is:
XFS (sdb2): xfs_log_force: error -5 returned.

I assume EIO is still defined as:
#define EIO              5      /* I/O error */
