It probably is not risky, but I was hoping for a 2nd opinion.

I do understand being hesitant to keep changing the code on your server, and I
appreciate the debugging you've done so far.  It may be enough that with code
inspection this bug can still be found.

When the filesystems have these problems, do you know if they went through log
recovery during mount, prior to the error?
