OK, I will bring this to the attention of the MD folks.  However, I should 
reiterate that I am unable to reproduce the problem when using ext3, and am 
worried they'll just say it is XFS's fault.  Is it not conceivable that the 
XFS code is somehow inducing a hang in the MD code, this being a monolithic 
kernel and all?
