Summary: Failure to restore.
Product: Linux XFS
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: xfsdump
AssignedTo: xfs-master@xxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: sgi@xxxxxxxxxx
xfsrestore on a certain incremental fails to restore, giving numerous messages
of the form:
xfsrestore: WARNING: unable to unlink current file prior to restore: src/linux-
2.6.23-gentoo-r3/drivers/isdn/hisax/isdnl3.h: Not a directory: discarding
xfsrestore: WARNING: unable to unlink current file prior to restore: src/linux-
2.6.23-gentoo-r3/drivers/ieee1394/ieee1394_transactions.c: Is a directory:
discarding
it then won't restore further incrementals, so I can't get more current data.
I'm not sure how to debug this, but I do have the backup files around.
There have been significant changes to the FS between the level-0 and the level-
1 that causes the errors, basically several large directories were deleted, and
then many other files are being recreated. The message seems to suggest
confusion about whether something is a file or a directory.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to do new level-0 backups. Actually, at this
point, I'm not sure I can trust xfsdump, and might need to start using
something else for my data.
This is xfsdump-2.2.46.
