growfs has been broken in the kernel for a long time if you try to  
grow by more than 2TB at a time. I checked a fix for this into the  
xfs dev tree a couple of days ago that fixes this overflow. Can you 
grab an xfs kernel tree out of CVS (2.6.19 based right now) and see 
if that fixes your problem?
