which includes this from the fdisk man page:
A BSD/SUN type disklabel can describe 8 partitions, the
third of which should be a ?whole disk' partition. Do not
start a partition that actually uses its first sector
(like a swap partition) at cylinder 0, since that will
destroy the disklabel.
and
[root@lite root]# mkfs.xfs /dev/sda1
mkfs.xfs: /dev/sda1 appears to contain a partition table (Sun).
mkfs.xfs: Use the -f option to force overwrite.
looks like mkfs.xfs is not compatible with sun disklabels; they have
conflicting designs (they both want block 0)
